The legendary Davey Jones jewels are found on a mysterious island with a gem strewn beaches, offering wealth to all willing to risk the giant whirlpool that guards it. This 2 - 4 player game is for 9yr - Adult.... would be - pirates. "Curse of Davey Jones" has a quality laser printed game surface mounted to on a near 17"x 17" quad fold board of the Pirate Sea. Cards are also of professional quality. Game is housed in a 12 x 9.5 x 1.25 inch standard game box. Five colorful wooden ship tokens, a stack of black cannon ball gems,along with lots of colorful shiny loot.
The instruction booklet, a short pirate history, along with an excerpt from a 200 yr old pirates log, and a "How to talk like a pirate" guide will all help new pirates learn the trade; And inspire study of the period Arrrrr.... you ready for adventure!
This is hand produced at our home, it is not a resold Chinese product. We know it looks to good for a home publication but be assured we developed and put these together ourselves. Originally self published in 2004, we continued to improve this game even more. This newest incarnation contains all the advances we have learned in gaming and production since then, with countless hours of game play behind it, we know this is the best pirate based board game available. Each is custom made and assembled by my family, for you!
GAME PLAY INSTRUCTION EXCERPTS
START - 2 to 4 Players each begin by dueling for Start Position, each rolling a single die. (High wins, if tie just continue until one player wins). Duel winner starts sailing and turns will follow clockwise. Turn ends when sailing spaces are used and related actions are completed, such as collecting buried treasure, plundering ports, looting other ships, or free collection from jewel beach. Goal is to acquire the most wealth!
SAIL TO AQUIRE WEALTH - Players compete to collect the most wealth by sailing to any of the below listed positions. Simply roll both dice, the total rolled is the max. number of spaces your ship can travel to the location of your choice on your turn. Collected wealth is placed in your Loot Bags. Most special items you find will add value and sailing advantages. Beware of fast moving storms and other ships looking to attack you.
1. Main Ports are plundered by collecting 2 clear gems on each new visit. (Four corner islands.)
2. Treasure Islands have buried treasure (cards) to dig up. Pick 1 at each visit after finding the treasure map. (Four central islands.)
3. Whirlpool Beach is littered with gems and also holds 3 Special Gems, shake a single die and collect that amount. Exiting this area is hazardous because of the strong currents and you are barely under sail.
4. Loot Other Ships by stopping next to them, declaring an attack! Collect your booty by rolling a single die and receive that amount from the player you attacked. Manage your powder well for you may be the next victim.
FAST MOVING STORMS- Trouble off the Port Bow sir! Fast moving tropical storms threaten disaster at every passing. Storms (4 circled swirl areas.) Active Storms will rotate one position clockwise for each subsequent activation. Any and all ships caught in or sailing into an Active Storm must immediately shake the "Sail or Pay" die to determine how the ship weathered the storm, and if a payment for damage is required.
ESCAPE THE WHIRLPOOL - When leaving the Port at Jewel Beach a player will encounter strong whirlpool currents and may need to jettison some valuable cargo to escape the pull. Exiting ship must immediately shake the "Sail or Treasure" die to determine if the ship will need to lose treasure to avoid the currents pull.
DAVEY JONES – When a player cannot pay his debts he becomes Davey Jones and loses his normal status, and gets the Black Ship from stores (His sunken ship is placed on its side off the board until reinstated.) Davy cannot win the game regardless of the wealth collected during his exile. Davy is invincible, does not pay storm or whirlpool damages, and does not need or use powder to attack. Davy collects 2 small gems or 1 large gem per each sea attack! There is no defense!
RESTORED SHIP: Should another player not be able to pay his debts: He will replace Davy and the previous Davy will be reinstated as a normal ship, retaining all collected wealth. Davy can also be reinstated to normal should he take possession of all 3 of his Special Gems. He can collect these from other ships he attacks or from the port at Jewel beach.h
